New Water Supply to Transform Daily Life at Sheep Ahoy Rescue
Sheep Ahoy Rescue has been awarded a grant from the Anthony V. Martin Foundation to fund the installation of a mains water supply to their land — a vital improvement that will make a significant difference to the charity’s day-to-day operations and the welfare of the animals in their care.
Based on five acres of land purchased by the charity last year, Sheep Ahoy provides a safe haven for neglected and abandoned sheep, giving animals that are often overlooked the care, compassion, and second chance they deserve.
Alongside their rescue work, the charity also supports the local community by working with Special Educational Needs schools, welcoming pupils on-site to volunteer and spend time connecting with the animals. Their work relies entirely on donations to cover essential costs, including significant veterinary care and feed expenses.
This grant will enable Sheep Ahoy to install a mains water supply directly to their fields, removing the need for volunteers to travel to another site each day to collect and refill water containers. The new supply will save valuable time, reduce the physical demands placed on volunteers, and create a more sustainable way of caring for the animals.
Speaking about the impact of the grant, Julia Wilmshurst from Sheep Ahoy said:
“This grant will transform our daily work at the charity by allowing us to have a fresh water supply to the animals without the need for volunteers to take and refill water containers at another site each day. The latter is not only time consuming but is a manual task which falls on the physically fit volunteers. A water supply to the field will significantly improve things for both the animals and the humans alike.
