How I Launched a Seagrass Non-Profit in 30 Days That Lets Supporters Earn From Inviting Friends

When I started this project, I wasn’t an ocean scientist or a full-time activist. I just wanted to make a real, measurable difference — fast. Seagrass caught my attention because it’s one of the most powerful tools we have for fighting climate change… and yet, hardly anyone’s talking about it.

Seagrass can store carbon 35x faster than rainforests, improve biodiversity, protect marine life, reduce coastal erosion, and restore entire ecosystems. But we've already lost over 90% of the UK’s seagrass beds.

That’s why I launched Seagrass.app: a platform that helps everyday people fund verified restoration projects — and even earn income by spreading the word.

The 60/40 Model: Built for Transparency and Scale

Most non-profits struggle with trust and growth. That’s why we’re different. We use a 60/40 model where 60% of every contribution goes directly to restoration projects, and 40% funds outreach, education, and tools to grow our impact. No confusing admin buckets. No hidden overhead.

We share our breakdowns and updates so you can track where your money goes — and what it’s achieving.

Invite Friends. Earn Commissions. Grow the Movement.

I also created the Ocean Partner programme so that rather than spending the 40% on ads, we can give that back to our supporters. We remain 100% non-profit - but our community who help share the project can earn - instead on Meta, and TikTok.

Here’s how it works:

  • You get a unique referral link and dashboard.

  • Every time someone donates or offsets their carbon through your link, you earn commission.

  • There’s no cap. It’s simple, ethical, and designed to reward impact.

Whether you’re an individual, a content creator, or a non-profit, you can raise money and help the planet at the same time.

If you’re interested in sustainability, environmental restoration, or just want to support a smart solution that pays it forward - start with our free Seagrass Impact Toolkit.
