Vaccination day at SFT Animal Sanctuary, Tangier
Sally Kadaoui, founder of SFT Animal Sanctuary in Tangier, sent us this photo this morning of 140 dogs about to be vaccinated.
The dogs with yellow tags are getting their booster. The dogs without tags are getting their first vaccination, which protects against distemper, parvovirus, rabies and hepatitis. Every dog is also being wormed.
Sally grew up in Tangier with a Moroccan father and a British mother. As a child she saw how much the city’s stray animals suffered, and in 2013 she went back to start the sanctuary she had always dreamed of.
SFT looks after hundreds of rescued dogs at the sanctuary, as well as many tagged dogs living on the streets of Tangier.
Vaccinating this many dogs is about more than the animals at the sanctuary. Through its TNVT programme (trap, neuter, vaccinate, return) and Project Hayat, SFT is campaigning to end the culling of stray dogs in Morocco. Its goal is to make Tangier the first rabies-free, animal-friendly city in Africa. The project has won the Global Rabies Day Award for its region.
SFT relies entirely on donations. To support Sally and the team, you can donate at sftmorocco.org.
